England to Begin the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the relatively straightforward entry for a championship hosted across the majority of the UK and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions fixture since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to stage the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Opening and Demonstration

The event was unveiled at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were confronted as they arrived the site by about 50 activists, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were raised with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will include the Dragons if they make it.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for European club finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help reach a broader range of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through that route.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a tournament for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the sport – its passion and power to foster unity.”

In excess of three million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be made available to attendees.
