Iran is ready to restart atomic talks with the United States as long as it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has announced.

Abbas Araghchi stated only diplomacy worked, and disclosed recent overtures had come from intermediaries to resume discussions with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran possessed no unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran could not yet allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to access bombed nuclear sites for security reasons.

Navigating a Challenging Path

The foreign minister is treading a challenging route since Iran wishes not to be seen to be proceeding from a stance of weakness, and he consistently maintained that Iran had emerged more resilient defensively and psychologically from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to process nuclear material within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the primary cause of the impasse in the earlier negotiations.

Earlier Talks Unexpectedly Concluded

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, struck Tehran's atomic facilities in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with Donald Trump claiming the locations had been destroyed. Afterward, European countries exercised their authority to restore international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a major impact.

Perfect Agreement Offered

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the enrichment issue in previous talks, when it was decided an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could process nuclear material. Each party would have been able to declare success since local refinement would have continued and the US could be confident that Iran's enrichment initiative was entirely non-military.

It had not been agreed in the negotiations that US nuclear scientists could operate within Iranian territory, but that was a natural consequence of the consortium proposal. Representatives stated on multiple occasions they had achieved a deal with the US representative the US official only for the arrangement to fall apart due to "spoilers in Washington".

Existing Position

Iranian officials declared the consortium offer was now withdrawn, but it seems very probable the proposal could be reintroduced in certain ways if negotiations resume.

Trump in recent days claimed he had been obtaining communications that Iran desired to restart talks, but privately Iran's diplomats say they are not yet getting consistent overtures from Washington either straightforwardly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, the Omani authorities and the Saudi kingdom. The Iranian foreign ministry has been criticized of non-responsiveness in the face of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran asserts diplomacy is not part of a performance.

Political Position

In his remarks to the gathering, intended to paint the US as a controlling nation that exploits the notion of worldwide standards, Araghchi stated the 12-day war showed the conflict could not be ended by armed force. He said the strikes began with a American requirement for an total Iran submission and concluded with an unconditional call for a halt to hostilities.

Iran is certain the opening assaults from Tel Aviv were carried out with total Washington understanding and collaboration, making confidence difficult to reestablish.

Negotiations Stays the Final Answer

Araghchi said: "Tehran was not the one that had deserted dialogue; it was the United States and the European states that had consistently attempted to impose their demands during the negotiations. Diplomacy can still be alive and remains the primary solution to resolve conflicts, but its standards, guidelines and fundamentals must be respected."

Recovery and Reconstruction

In what is portrayed by Tehran representatives as the struggle of repair and recovery, Araghchi claimed he was assured Iran's defence capabilities "are considerably enhanced than prior to 13 or 14 June of this year. He added: "We successfully passed this war. Our nuclear technology, which they intended to obliterate, remains in place. The facilities and equipment, if damaged, will be restored; what is important is the resolve of the nation of Iran and then the social solidarity that they targeted, but were unable to destroy. The Iranian people have grown more powerful, more cohesive, and more backing of the leadership and the state in the wake of this assault."
