The Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but applauded their performance in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
