A teenager from Australia has faced legal proceedings after reportedly vandalizing a large blue sculpture of a legendary being by applying googly eyes to it.

The 19-year-old, 19 years old, appeared remotely at the local court in South Australia on that day, facing with one count of property damage.

In a statement at the time of the recent event, the municipal authorities said that surveillance video captured a individual putting fake eyes on the artwork, which residents have nicknamed the “Blue Blob”.

Ms Vanderhorst made no plea and told the judge she was unwell, according to media sources, with the magistrate recommending her to secure a lawyer before her next court date in the final month of the year.

The following day the reported event, the city leader stated that repairs to the much-loved public artwork would be costly as the adhesive eyes could not be removed without damaging the sculpture.

“This wilful damage to a cherished community art is unacceptable and disrespectful,” Mayor Lynette Martin remarked in mid-September. “It is not innocent amusement, it is pricey - it is also frustrating to those members of our community who have embraced the Blue Blob.”

She said the council would pursue the “significant” restoration expenses from those accountable for the vandalism.

At the time the artwork was initially suggested, it received mixed reactions from the local community due to its price tag and appearance.

Priced at 136,000 Australian dollars (eighty-nine thousand US dollars; £68,000), the artwork represents a mythical megafauna, with the creators inspired by an prehistoric marsupial ant-eater discovered in nearby caverns that was “massive, lumbering and fascinating”.
